En referencia a lo de la placa Asus quemada, un representante del servicio técnico de la marca en Singapur ha afirmado que el problema era un bug de la bios Intel que llevaba ya que era un "media sample" que ni siquiera tenía la primera bios de Asus incorporada. También dice que se dieron cuenta del problema, que lo han solucionado y que su primera bios ya no tiene el bug:

Posteriormente, Asus Usa indicó que esta no era la principal causa del fallo aunque no negó la existencia del bug en la UEFI/BIOS. Parece que ahora le toca recibir a la todopoderosa Intel, ya veremos como acaba todo este asunto.

Es curioso, nunca pensé que fuera la BIOS, aunque igual es lo único que han encontrado y no tienen más explicaciones para ello, quién sabe... De todas formas no ha sido la única en quemarse, ¿la otra también llevaría la BIOS Intel?

Y otra duda que me surge... lo de Media sample que es?

Es el hardware que envían los fabricantes a las web especializadas antes de su fecha de comercialización oficial para que tengan tiempo de probarlas y poder presentar sus reviews el mismo día de su salida. Pasa a menudo que el fabricante va justo de tiempo y les envía productos no completamente acabados con algún que otro detalle por pulir. Este ha sido el caso al no tener la placa ni siquiera la bios/uefi de asus sino sólo una genérica de Intel.

Bueno, ya hay una respuesta oficial de Asus para el problema de la DeLuxe quemada.
Básicamente, explican que fué el resultado de un firmware inadecuado para la zona de alimentación que provocaba picos excesivos en el encendido y el apagado del pc. Esto combinado con un punto de soldadura deficiente en una de las fases y el hecho de que la fuente Corsair AXi no tenía el OCP habilitado provocó el problema.
La solución pasa por actualizar la UEFI a la versión 1004 y los que tengan fuentes Corsair AXi fabricadas antes de 15/03/13 habiliten el OCP a través del software OC Link.
Decir que ningún otro modelo de la marca ha tenido este problema y que con estos cambios la solución es definitiva:

Hi Nate,
We have determined the primary cause of failure for the pre-production ASUS X99 Deluxe you were testing on September 6, 2014 along with a secondary cause gathered during the investigation phase. Our initial analysis of the VRM Phase-4 MOSFET/Driver package failure is a bad solder point that was also present at the VRM Phase-3 location resulting in the failure you described along with the presence of solder balls. Additional analyses lead us to believe this was the secondary cause for the failure described.
After extensive testing and collaboration with leading power supply manufacturers and our VRM supplier (International Rectifier) it was determined that the new VRM design on the X99 Deluxe board needs a firmware update to balance start-up and shutdown power loads and sequencing across the MOSFET/Driver packages. We determined that higher loads were placed on the VRM Phase-4 package when the processor was drawing less than 70 amps of current during start-up and shutdown sequences based on the original firmware. This along with some older power supply OCP/Shutdown anomalies results in a bad component combination that randomly (very) leads to a VCCIN spike and power surge on the VRM Phase-4 MOSFET/Driver package that could cause component failures. We still have not replicated this failure in our test labs after thousands of hours of testing across a significant number of component combinations. However, we believe this was the primary cause for the initial board shutdown and the solder point issues exacerbated the subsequent component failures in the manner you outlined when using the secondary power supply. The good news is that we have a solution to this potential issue.
We are releasing a new EFI (build 1004) today that addresses this issue by balancing start-up and shutdown power loads across all VRM Phases when the processor is drawing less than 50 amps. This will greatly mitigate the chance of a VCCIN spike or power surge in rare instances based on extensive testing. Our new balancing/sequencing rules will decrease overall power efficiency results by a few percent based on processor loading under 50 amps but otherwise the board’s overall performance will not change. In addition to the new power rules, EFI release 1004 features a host of performance improvements with significant improvements in the area of memory overclocking using the 100 strap at speeds up to and past DDR4-3300.
We highly recommend that all users of the ASUS X99 Deluxe board download and install EFI 1004. This EFI is available from our support site starting today - X99-Deluxe EFI 1004. Please follow the proper instructions for updating your EFI. Con respecto a la otra placa quemada, la MSI X99S SLI PLUS parece que después de investigarlo, han concluído que ha sido un caso aislado y puntual de esa placa sin mayor transcendencia:

Pues me parece una auténtica chapuza, sí están reconociendo que es un problema de un punto de soldadura de la placa base esta se debe sustituir por otra nueva con el problema ya resuelto porque hablamos de un problema físico menos perdonable es si tenemos en cuenta que es el tope de gama, esto es como si tengo el coche con un problema y me dicen que le actualice el firmware del ordenador de abordo

Vamos, que tras poner el perfil XMP de las memorias (el cual está a 1.35v, completamente dentro del rango que da Intel) le ha petado placa y micro, y esta vez con una BIOS de Asus oficial.

Ahora enserio... que les pasa a esas placas? no tienen controlados los voltajes o que?
